Anyone been eating in Golden, west of Denver?
I can not believe that Denver doesn't warrant its own board. Good grief folks there are good eats there, loads of tourists, and many conventions...so ought to be chowhounds galore looking for good food. I lived there for six years, before becoming a hound, and can say without a doubt the food scene was better than what I've been dealing with in DC.
At any rate, I will be back in the area next week and need to meet a friend west of downtown. Lakewood, Morrison, Golden? I remember a great Italian joint in Golden and a surprisingly good restaurant in a hotel on the main drag of Golden. And there were some excellent Asian places in the western burbs like Wheatridge.
Can you give me some current suggestions PLEASE?!
I think the hotel that you're thinking of is the Table Mountain Inn. I've only been there once and it's been a few years, but I remember it being pretty good. I like the Morrison Inn for (admittedly non-authentic) Mexican. There are a few good spots in Lakewood... I know 240 Union gets pretty good reviews although I haven't tried it myself yet. Hopefully some of the other Denver chowhounds can help a little more than me!
The Hilltop Bistro in Golden has always been excellent.
The restaurant in the Table Mountain Inn is what you might remember. It's always been top notch.
A little more down home is Davie's Chuck Wagon Diner on Colfax.
Another good bet would be 240 Union on Simm's in Lakewood.
In Morrison, the Morrison Inn is usually entertaining although I find the food to be good, not great.
