  1. I used to love Jeromes in Petaluma baby back ribs and especially the bbq'd zucchini, but it's been years... And I hear Porter Street Barbeque in Cotati/Rohnert Park is good.

Porter Station perhaps? There is one in Santa Rosa in the same shopping center as Daphne's.... no soul at all... not rec worthy.

I've been a few times. They cook the meat over an open wood fire. My problem with the place is that the bbq sandwiches (tri-tip or pork) seem to me like the meat has been microwaved. The meat is very hot and has the flavor of microwaved meat (not good). I think it's been that way for me two out of the three times I've been there. Has anyone else had that experience there?

      2. What town? Here'ssome ideas

The only one I've been to is Lombardi's which has a nice weekend bbq. If you are in an area that borders Napa, there are a few over that way.

I've only been to Lombardi's and Jeromes in Petaluma... Lombardi's meat nice and tender. Jeromes to me too dry, the sauce just added on as an afterthought.
I like BBQ in the Mississippi/Chicago Style-- steamed first, then slow cooked over a large garbage can grill. Non of that sissy gas fired stuff.
Had something approaching that at the Weekday Farmers Market in Petaluma.
Still looking for more BBQ with soul...

I tried a pulled pork sandwich at the Cotati Lombardi's a few months ago. Quite average and nothing special about it. I'd actually gone there hoping to get one of those hot dogs you'd recommended in Petaluma. But this location doesn't have dogs.

Went to Bluegrass probably a month ago. It was ok. The decor/vibe was nothing special and really loud, although the patio is probably much more pleasant.

The brisket was, I kid you not, sliced with the grain, making it painfully chewy and hard to cut and eat. Not sure if I just hit an off night, but definitely disconcerting. The veggies on teh side were unremarkable to not very good. Not sure what my guest had, possibly ribs.

On the up side, the cocktails and deep fried apple fritters were both pretty good.

Probably not on my list of places to return to, which is too bad. I tend to feel like the area has a lack of more casual, mid-range places, but I'd rather have the pulled pork sandwich at Mondo if I get a BBQ craving.

Thanks for the word on Bluegrass. Have you tried any of the special bourbons?

I'm happy to hear about the food at Mondo, the new beer garden too.
