18 year old Birthday Lunch Bev. Hills

Hughlipton Jul 16, 2008 04:38 PM

My daughter turns 18 this month and I plan on taking her on a shopping spree as one of her gifts. I want a really nice place for Dad and his daughter and her step-mother to go for a really nice Beverly Hills lunch. We've been to Il Fornaio and the Beverly Hills Hotel. So with those exceptions please help me pick the spot where you would want to take your daughter if she were turnng 18 for a Saturday lunch while spending her father's money on good things to wear and own.

Barney Greengrass would be ideal -- not only could she shop on the way up, but there's often famous faces and the food and views are good.

this was going to be my first suggestion, but wasn't sure if it's "fancy" enough for what you're looking for.

if she's a fan of japanese, she might like Mako.

on Canon, i love the open space feel of Porta Via.

there is of course also the most classic option which would be lunch at Spago.

the other suggestion i have is to go to The Ivy for lunch for yummy grilled salad and star watching, then *great* shopping on Robertson :)

I was going to suggest Barney Greengrass as well. It's a fun place to eat, with outdoor seating, good food, a nice view, and she might get to see some celebs to boot.

do you have any preference for cuisine and atmosphere?

I love Mariposa in Neiman Marcus, La Scala is yummy and light, there's Cut in the Beverly Wilshire, which I'm sure lunch must be less expensive than a dinner would be. There's always sprinkles or crumbs for dessert! :) have fun!

I agree with Mariposa. Instant gratification with the broth and popovers,
Another thought is Il Pastaio, if the young ladies like Italian. Park at NM and walk to Il Pastaio.

I have to say that if I were 18 and going on a shopping spree with daddy's $$, I would want lunch at The Ivy and shopping on Robertson. If she's set on shopping in the heart of BH, then Spago it is, but the younger crowd is all about Robertson.

Thank you for all of the wonderful selections. It feels to me like I'm leaning toward The Ivy or Spago. I think she'll love the idea of the patio.

if you really wanted to amp it up, sit on the patio at The Ivy and arrive in a limo or darkened car.
