Honeycrust Bakery?

I read some of the reviews here - need to order a cake for the boss' wife and it better be good ...LOL

He suggested Costco or Dominion and I said noooooooo (no offense, but looking for something not so sweet and artificial/lard like tasting).

Millygirl? If you're reading this, please tell me how their slab cakes taste? I'm looking for a white cake, fresh strawberries, buttercream frosting, with a photo picture on it.

I posted in another topic that I spoke to Vangie, but she said she knows too many Judy's. Would you have any pictures of the cakes you bought.

Hey red dragon, just heading out for guess what, dinner. Kind of in a rush but I can tell you the slab cakes at Honeycrust were excellent. Extremely fresh, light tasting, not too too sweet, just right. We feed them to roughly 200 hundred people and everyone raved!! Sorry I never bothered to take pictures....it was a corporate event. I'll have to call Vangie.

Hey red dragon, in my haste I neglected to add that their cakes are very moist. The description you give above is very similar to the type I use to order, except if I recall correctly they added a little bit of lemon filling. The pictures came out quite well. I think you (and more importantly, the boss) would be pleased with your choice. Beats Loblaw's, Dominion and Costco hands down. And not cheesy looking either. Good luck with it and please let us know how it went.

Hi again - thanks for replying!

I'm going to give it a shot and order with Honeycrust Bakery! It was between them and Katie's Cakes, but I was NOT impressed with their customer service!

For a white cake with fresh strawberries, do you recommend a lemon filling or custard filling, or have you ever ordered that flavor combo? Katie's cakes does not recommend lemon, said it would over-power?

It's not until 1st of August, but I am going to go with Honeycrust Bakery! So glad I read your review and received your reply on time!

My boss has a photo picture too, and it's not easy to find a place that does that, and also makes good tasting cakes.

Let me know your thoughts on the strawberry combo? I believe Vangie said either lemon or custard.

You know we used them so many times, I believe I've had both versions and they were equally as good. You wouldn't go wrong with either, just a matter of personal preference. Neither one was overbearing, they use a very light coat.

Hey red dragon, how'd it go with the cake?

Hi there! My boss and I picked up the cake yesterday! I have to be honest in saying that I was "very" worried when I saw the building!! My boss looked aghast. I won't know until next week how his party liked the cake, but it did look very nice indeed. I'll be sure to ask him how it tasted, etc. The bakery is in a very odd part of town (for a bakery), with mostly auto shops around ... and I was very skeptical upon seeing the place, to be very honest.

Have you ever bought anything else from the place? I saw the sign says pies and pastries as well.

Lastly, have you yourself picked up the cakes, been there, or always had them delivered?

No I've not been there personally as I've always had my orders delivered. But I'm not surprised at the location only because they're more of a supplier as opposed to a bakery, like Rahier, Celestin, etc.

I've had their muffins, donuts, danishes, and cake, all was very good. Never tried the pies though. I'm not really a pie person.

I'm pretty certain your boss will be quite happy with it, but let me know the final outcome.

Thanks for the info on the location, etc. I was actually considering ordering and picking up a cake from them next week. Now I'll be prepared.
