Dessert/Pastries in Midtown

Can anyone recommend a good bake shop/cupcake/ patisserie or anything appropriate for a small backyard dinner party after work on Friday. Preferably in Midtown around Bryant Park East. I have ones I like Downtown, but I'd like to just hit one straight from work and head off to the party.

If you're willing to walk over towards the west side, Casa Cupcake might work too. I like their donuts a lot, as well. Not 100% sure that the address below is correct as they moved a little while ago. Call before you go!

Right across the street from the park is Crumbs (in the Grace Bldg) - they have great cupcakes.

Crumbs has been gone for a long time. The best thing in the area is Le Pain Quotidien on 40th between 5th and 6th. No cupcakes but very good pastries.

Crumbs IS still in the Grace Building on 42nd Street

Where? They used to have an entrance on 42nd between 5th and 6th which hasn't been there for several months. Do you have to go in the building for it?

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just find out for myself and walk by it as I don't live too far away. But I'm a bit confused about what you're saying -- first, Crumbs is in the Grace Building and now it's right next door to the Grace Building.

I have to admit- I just looked at Crumbs website and the thought of a Turtle or Boston Cream Cupcake is pretty tempting. That might be a fun place to get dessert and bring to the party.

I don't like the cupcakes at Crumbs at all.

ITA: the cake part was too dry and the frosting was not good enough to compensate for the dry cake.

Why not get some Beard Papa cream puffs--they're made fresh and the store is one block from Bryant Park.

So funny that you say that, because that is what I usually do. I wanted to get something different since I brought those to the last dinner party at these particular friends house. i LOVE Beard Papa. Thanks for trying.
