Don't know the place. Years ago, when I lived in Pomona we would patronize Xochimilco, La Paloma and damned if I can remember the name of the third place.

Now that we live in Chino we head to El Chollo in La Habra when we need some Mexican comfort.

Used to live in San Dimas, and the only places in Pomona I was familiar with was El Merendero taco (great taquitos) stand near Fairplex and Casa something-or-other on Foothill that has these decent, super-cheap full meals.

it was a standard for Cal Poly grad students when I went there in the 80's. Food was good, basic Mexican fare and very inexpensive. Great chile rellenos. The small bar area was inhabited by mostly Latino men and locals...atmosphere was friendly, old Ensenada without any of that "Hussongs" element- never trendy. The neighborhood was somewhat "tenous" after dark (police warned us a few times not to spend any unnecessary time in the parking lot due to gang problems, but I never felt challenged). It was always packed with locals/families/students on a Friday night, guaranteed ranchero music on the radio. I went back in 93' (diversion from traffic on the 10) but haven't been back...do report on how it is in the new millenium ;-)
