Reasonable driving distance from LBI Seafood

  • 3

We are hosting friends from Arizona soon at LBI. In general the food on the Island has been a poor value and less then top notch, IMO.
We are looking for some place on par with Dorris and Ed's from the Highlands - Since it's a 90 minute drive W/O traffic I must pass on that for our friends.

Quality of food is the key - the best please, fried and broiled makes no never mind, just great food in a place that has A/C and lets us sit down. $20 a person $50 a person it's ok. Not much more then 50-60 per person for salad, soup and entree though.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Mud City Crab House on East Bay in Manahawkin has excellent fresh seafood. It's very crowded on weekends, with waits often more than an hour, so I'd suggest getting there early and putting your name on the list. Here's a link to their website: http://www.mudcitycrabhouse.com/

    1. Did you try Yellow Fin or Blue on the Island? I believe both would pleasantly surprise you.

      1. Forgot - if you want the quintessential Jersey shore seafood experience (not as upscale), then you can't go wrong with either Allen's Clam Bar on Route 9 in New Gretna or, a bit further south, Oyster Creek Inn in Leeds Point. Allen's is a BYOB with the freshest fried scallops you'll get anywhere - liquor store across the street. Go to the outside crab room (screened in porch) at Oyster Creek and sit down to a tray full of blue claw crabs or perfectly steamed lobsters while you watch the boats come in and enjoy the Barnegat Bay breeze - they have a full bar. Both are worth the trip to escape the stuffiness of LBI.
