Lots of comments on both of these but can't quite figure if one wold be preferable for a celebration dinner. Anyone been to each of them recently?

I've been to both in the last 2 months. And chose not to go back to either!
Service at Amaya has always been bad - and the food has slipped too - but it's an impressive room. Chakra doesn't warrant the prices charged and isn't particularly special. If forced, I'd go to Amaya (after July 20 - it's part of Summerlicious until then, which potentially exacerbates the service issues). But by choice I'd skip both and consider Tabla.

I second the motion for Tabla. It's become our favourite delivery source! Just last night, we ordered: fish xacutti, palak paneer, eggplant bharta, chana masala. All were delicious, all had totally different flavours and layers of spice. The fish, in particular, was fantastic, with slivers of coconut that added great texture. Just wonderful. The restaurant itself has a really nice atmosphere, so a great spot for dining out, too.
