Mid-Town West, good for large group

rosiebg Jul 15, 2008 01:04 AM

Hi - I've searched this board, and I don't think I am replicating any past posts:

I am looking for a tasty restaurant for about 30 people that would also act as a good '"Welcome to NYC" first dinner. The group is staying in the mid-50's, on the west side, but if you have a great recommendation for place in another neighborhood, that would be fine. I am trying to avoid cutesy and gimmicky. For 30 people, finding something nice can be hard, but I thought if it exists, you all would know.
Price range: $15-30 for a main.
Type of food: anything, as long as it is good.

I thought I replied to this, but maybe not...if so, ignore

    Red Eye Grill
    Bar Americain

In my view, the food at Bar Americain is mediocre. And even though mains are within the stated price range, once you add on apps, desserts, tax & tip, the final cost skyrockets. I'd avoid it.

I think you meant to type "Puttanesca." I haven't been there or to Red Eye Grill, so I can't comment.

Campanile, on W. 29th St., b/t Madison and Park Av. S., serves solidly-prepared, delicious traditional Italian cuisine. The owner, Slavko, and his staff provide a warm welcome, and service is very efficient. Prices meet your budget.

There is a private room, but I don't know how many it can hold. If it turns out to be too small, the dining room is spacious, so you can be seated there.

I'm sure Slavko will work with you to make your group's dinner a success.
