RYU GIN

wifey took me to ryu gin for my birthday Friday night.....
just wanted to put up a little post...
The restaurant was great.....must be the most expensive meal i have ever had, even in NYC.
Its a nice little place that has gotten i think 2 michellin stars this year...
Had like maybe a 13 course kaiseki there....the ingredients are awesome. the technique was flawless.

Had an ignorant american come in next to us with his mail order bride that complained about japanese food....kept griping about not wanting to suffer through another 3 hour dinner and wanted a cheeseburger from his hotel room service....they left after 3 courses and he told the waiter the food was bland and flavorless and dropped an Amex black card.....what a pompous jerk....all that money and still no class......

just my opinion....other than that the restaurant was great.....

we also then went to 57 for drinks.......
its gotten a lot of write ups lately.....
looks like a NYC meatpacking joint.....I asked the bartender if Jean Jorges had anything to do with it, but he had no idea....

it was a great night, thanks to the Mrs......

  1. Well at least you enjoyed yourself and got an amazing story to tell, sounds like something out of candid camera.

    1. 57 has been in the news a bit lately, did you try any of the food?

I'm most interested in the fact that they serve buffalo wings. I dearly miss good wings.

man, you are talking to someone who went to SUNY Buffalo for a year......
that is a great idea for a concept for a restaurant here......and the wings here are sooooo good....

sorry, forgot to answer your question....we didnt have any food....but had plenty of 1,000 yen drinks....its really ridiculous....

Not far from my alma matter in Rochester.
I wonder if a place like Buffalo Wild Wings would do ok here, I tend to think not although I'd personally be very happy!

I think they would do well here, saw a place in nishi azabu called zest that had decent looking wings, but i was just drinking there...i think they need a good american breakfast diner here also....

Zest wings are not that great, not bad though. I'd consider them "middle america" average style wings.

I think they sell on the performance factor, they are sauced tableside in large plastic container and shaken up in the air as if the waiter was making a mixed drink. I honestly don't see the appeal.
