Hiya folks -

My BF is craaaazy about pineapple upside-down cake, and since his birthday is coming up soon, I would love to track some down for him! Any suggestions?

Thanks!

no specifics, but: it's doable at home if you have a dark-colored pan (which will facilitate browning of pineapple for nonsensical-but-undeniable reasons). Or maybe check the menus for Upstairs on the Square, which sometimes does "american classic" desserts, or Les Zygomates, which does a solid tarte tatin (a similar technique), so they might whimsically do a pineapple upside-down cake.

I think the only place I've seen it is at Pepper Pot, the Jamaican place by Dudley.

Both Finale and Stephanie's have them. I've never had them there, but neither place is exactly beloved on this board. Maybe you should go try them out first...or hope someone else comes forth with a firsthand rec.

What neighborhood are you looking in? If I had that request, I would ask Fafa at Muqueca in Inman Square. She makes amazing cakes. If that didn't work, I'd go to Petsi's Pies and see if she could do it; she's primarily pies, but makes delicious little apple cakes and has the Americana thing down pat.

They probably do have them at Shaw's or Star Market--I don't know if they would be great, but their baked stuff is often at least good.
