Chicago Must-Eats??

Hello,
As a born & raised Brooklynite travelling to the Windy City for the first time next weekend, wife & teen daughter in tow, staying on East Huron by the Millenium Hotel, I need advice. We're looking for food we HAVE to eat, that we can ONLY find in Chicago. If you were in Brooklyn, I'd send you to Totonno's or Di Faro's pizza; what MUST I eat in Chicago?
We'll be at the Pitchfork Festival in Union Park one day, at the Steppenwolf Theater another, the Art Institute on the third, maybe Schuba's on the last day, plus I hear you can swim in that big lake, so what do you Chicagoans recommend near any of those spots?
Thanks in advance.....

    1. re: wak

Thanks wak, this lth site seems just the ticket.

    2. The Steppenwolf theater is in the Lincoln Park area, so if you want to stick to the neighborhood you can go to Alinea or Charlie Trotter for fine dining (read very expensive, 200 a head), BOKA for mod price new American food or Riccardo Trattoria for neighborhood Italian.
If you want to go a bit west try Takashi, Spring or Mirai, all in Bucktown/Wicker Park.

After Pitchfork you can hit Sushi Wabi, small but great hip sushi joint not too far from Union Park.

      Good Luck.

      1. I would recommend that if you do Charlie Trotter or Alinea you don't do anything else that evening - they take a long time and are worth your full attention. Near Steppenwolf I also recommend Vinci for very tasty Italian.
