NC chowcouple hits Seattle overnight
Came up from Portland on the Train, which was an experience.
Checked into a downtown hotel for the evening, prior to our boarding a cruise the next day.
Took a cab ride (all the cabbies in Seattle drive as if they're hyped up on speed) to Nishino for dinner.
Well it was just great. We enjoyed every bit of it, and just kept on ordering more.
We had a lovely variety, including spanish mackeral, toro, and amberjack, plus all the standard varieties. Soups, tempura, grilled halibut cheeks, etc, were all finest kind.
The saki selection was excellent, and we loved the way they served it in the chilled bamboo.
Service was attentive and professional, and relaxed. We will remember this very nice dinner for a long time. Expensive and worth it.
We stopped on the way to Lola at Top Pot, where we got a donut. There were about a dozen people sitting outside in chairs and hanging around, none of them had food or anything. We walked to the front door, entered, and by the time we got to the counter, all of those people outside were following us in and making a line. I have No Idea why they hadn't entered previously, it was surreal, but it was definitely a significant amount of time after opening for the place, so I really don't know what they were thinking out there.
Lola was very pleasant, they only have Starbuck's coffee, but we had an excellent Bloody Mary, and a few nibbles to tide us over until:
Brunch: Jade Garden
Another cab to Jade Garden. We got there about 20 minutes before opening, and an entering waitress invited us in to sit while we waited. It was good quality Dim Sum, not as good as Chau Chow City in Boston or the Hong Kong in Durham, NC (of all places) but definitely worth stopping at. The chicken feet were not as bbq'ed as I'd like, and looked more steamed than roasted, but shrug. The char siu bao were excellent, as were the egg custards.
Seattle is definitely on my "return to" list.
