MSP - Aribels in Richfield, MN

Nothing I can say about the food hasn't already been covered on here. But we were in from 6:30 - 7:30 on a Friday evening and we were the only people in there the whole time. For all I know, business could be booming during the weekdays, at lunches or whatever. But the combination of great food, wonderful hosts and an empty restaurant made me suspect differently and want to post up this reminder.

  1. Did they have any wine/beer on the menu? It was reported here that they had lost their liqour license awhile ago and I thought that would be the end of them. It really is a wonderful place and they are so gracious. I think they may occaisionally do a decent business with dances/special nights for the African expat community.

I don't know -- I rarely ever drink. In the cooler behind the cash register, they had bottles that look like unusual beers but for all I know, they could have been the latest soft drink. Sorry I'm not much help in the alcohol area.

I don't know how long "awhile ago" is, but when I was there in late October they were definitely serving beers. I saw some people having what looked like Carribean-brand beers there, and I don't think that pudgy old white guy would have been up dancing if they weren't.

      2. I find it hard to believe that anyone has ever eaten there in the last three years! Every single time I go by on the bus, morning, afternoon, or evening there is NEVER, one single car in the parking lot! Unless there hours are from 4 to 9 p.m there is no way that place is ever open! You would expect at least the employees working there would have their cars in the parking lot but not one! Even if they all carpooled there would be at least ONE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT at 3:15 p.m in the afternoon! Does all of the employees and customers walk to this place? That is the only explanation I can think of why there is NEVER ANY CARS IN THAT PARKING LOT!
