just wondering if anyone has any "must go" places in Sidney...we're heading there tomorrow and i still have to find a place to eat Monday night, not to mention breakfast and lunch before we head to Tofino on Tuesday morning.

Italian Bakery has good pastries and breads, if you're looking for breakfast snacks.

Fish on Fifth is an earnestly run place not exceptional but decent/casual.

I agree with SS. The food isn't exceptional but fresh and tasty. The crab cakes are pretty good.

There's other restaurants along the esplanade that are pretty good too. Sorry can't remember their names.

My info is very dated as we too stayed overnite in Sidney before heading up to Tofino. However, that was in predecessor to the Valhalla complex just outside of Sidney en route from the ferry. The Latch had been recommended to us wich is part of the complex. Former Lieutenant-Governor's summer cottage or something to that effect...blah, blah, blah...just was not very good.

Later we learned that the large marina around the corner, Van Isle [?] had a very good spot on the water, Dock 401 or something to that effect but I think it closed down a few years back before we had an opportunity to try it.

Looking forward to getting some current info on both Sidney as well as Tofino for our visit in the Fall. Enjoy.

I don't know if I'm too late, but the SeaGrille t the Brentwood Bay lodge is nice. It's on the opposite side of the peninsula. It is higher end.

For less formal, I would recommend Sabhai Thai. It is always busy, and I have been known to drag my BF out there for dinner more than once, though he's not fond of a half hour drive for asian food. It's on Beacon (the main drag).
