I think the original poster was looking for alternatives because they had been there...

Nothing wrong with either. I like to seek out the less trafficked...

I can't figure out whether you've been to Tinto and Amada, but if you haven't you should try them. They're popular because they're good. To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, sometimes the restaurant less trafficked is less trafficked for a reason.

If you *have* been and are looking for alternatives, Ansill and Bar Ferdinand are fantastic and good, respectively (never been to Apamate, I'm afraid). I'd also add Zahav to the list, you can assemble a great meal from the small 'meze' plates. There are about 20 of them ranging in price from $5-$15 or so.

I have not. Not frowning upon them either. the wife was just recently to Tinto, and we plan a visit to Amada soon. Im just trolling for others...out of curiosity.. to know what else is out there.

yep, Bar Ferdinand is the way to go. They have these Manchego cheese cubes that are fried with apple foam that are truly amazing.
