Real cheese slices (not American processed)

Are there any widely available presliced real cheeses? I'm looking for something as convenient as American cheese slices, but not as processed and fake. I live near a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's, so anything from either of those would be OK. Thank you.

  1. My Whole Foods has Horizon brand cheddar slices, like this:

And Trader Joe's has pre-sliced real cheeses in the section by the packaged deli meats.

    1. Both Whole Foods and Trader Joes have a pretty good variety of sliced cheese. WF's has Applegate or Applehome something or other that does some really nice jack, both a light and regular version, and it's organic.
TJ's has the typical jack, cheddar, swiss and usually you can find muenster or havarti too. The light versions at TJ's are pretty plasticy though.
BTW, both places have sliced bread too. ;)

      1. Do any of the stores near you carry Tillamook cheese from Oregon? Their very good basic cheddar comes packaged pre-sliced.

I should have specified that I want individually wrapped slices, as wasteful as that is. Makes it easier to send out with lunches and not have the other slices get hard. I need the cheese to stay soft for my little baby's gums. Thanks.

It probably sounds like I work for them, but Tillamook also has individually wrapped cheeses. They're not as thin as slices but they're portioned.

There's also the Babybel cheeses too....

        2. Would string cheese work or does it have to be slices? It's individually wrapped and more real than the Kraft stuff.
