gluten free baked stuff in philly?

williej33 Jul 11, 2008 06:04 AM

Hello-- I'm in Philly for the weekend with my girlfriend, who has a gluten intolerance. If anyone knows of places that serve gluten-free baked goods, please let me know. Also, if there's any place that does a gluten-free soft pretzel or cheesesteak, that would be awesome. Thanks so much.

Unfortunately Mr. Ritts bakery just closed their center city location. Whole Foods has pretty good gluten free items. Some restaurants we frequent regularly are Matyson, Bistro 7, Figs, and Sazon. They all take very good care of us.

Sazon has a version of a gluten free cheesesteak. They have rolls made out of corn meal and use those for gluten free sandwiches. Most of the menu items at Sazon are gluten free. Just let the server know. They will even cook home made french fries and plantains in separate oil. Try the special steak marinated in cane sugar and spices.

For gluten free Chinese go to Long's. They will prepare their regular dishes with GF soy sauce.

Don't bother with the reading terminal. It will be a source of frustration for your girlfriend. There is almost nothing there she will be able to eat.

    Have a great time.
