Breakfast btwn Stamford and the city?

Hello Chowhounders,
I'm looking for some advice on a good breakfast place. I will be driving to new york city from connecticut early in the morning this weekend and would love some suggestions for breakfast. I'm traveling along with my dear uncle (unabashed food snob) and would love to treat him to a great morning meal. However, he normally likes to go for the out of the ordinary, really great homemade food that is served at a great price (so that he can brag about all his "great finds".) I would love to be able to show him something fun, but have never been through that area before and don't know where to start. Any and all suggestions are very much appreciated!

Garden Catering off I-95, Exit 9 turn right, 3 blocks on the left. Great breakfast sandwiches, especially the "Hotsy" eggs, cheese, bacon & chili....yumm! More expensive and traditional is City Diner at Exit 6.
