Spicy food downtown core

grandgourmand Jul 10, 2008 05:47 AM

I'm looking for a place for nice spicy food, possibly with beer, close to the downtown core for lunch tomorrow. Not looking for any Chinese. Maybe Indian. I've been going to Ackee Tree the last few times I had a hankering. I'm at King & Bay and I'll go as far North as Queen, as far West as Spadina and East as Sherbourne. Could do Ackee Tree again, but looking for an alternative. Any suggestions?

Ok, I didn't end up going anywhere on Friday. But this weekend, I'll check out this place I stumbled upon. The Jerk Hut on Sherbourne, just south of Front. Has anyone been?

I just bring my own habanero powder. Keep it on my keychain. That usually fixes everything. I also have Bhut Jolokia powder kept handy as well when I want something extra hot and I am not at home.

I think you might have an addiction problem. Kidding.

        The malaysian suggestion sounds good.

Ghandi's Roti its West of Spadina but worth the extra trek if you need your spice fix.

I would suggest going to Matahari on Baldwin. Malaysian food. I was there about a month ago and it was delicious and their food has good spice. Love the achar achar and I had a spicy noodle dish, can't remember the name, but it was deliciously spicy, with different levels of flavours. All of the food we had there was very good and nicely spiced.

There's not a lot of Indian in the core...there is Kama on the north side of King, west of York. It's ok. There is also Trimurti (Queen St) and Indus Junction

I don't know if this is the type of "spice" you are looking for, but what about Harlem Restaurant on Richmond just east of Yonge?

As for beer, well, BeerBistro and a pulled pork sandwich on the patio...mmmm....

There's Spices Cafe on Temperance. I've found it a bit hit or miss, but I've seen very favourable reviews on the board.
