Beans & Bagels...What just happened?
I have been going to the Beans & Bagels for a few years now at both of their locations, though this morning, due to a work commitment, I found myself at the one on Leland. I have always thought their coffee was pretty good but really enjoyed the bagels and relaxed atmosphere. Until this morning.
After getting my order and paying I looked in the bag and realized I didn't have the cream cheese I requested. When I went back up to the counter, waiting in line again to do so, I asked the counterman for some cream cheese. He looked at me incredulously,
"That's not what you ordered"
I said I did, but maybe I was too quiet or it was too loud, trying to indicate that it wasn't that big of a deal.
"You didn't say that at all!" The guy then literally threw the cream cheese at the cashier and yelled "Ring him up!"
I looked around me and the few people who were in line behind me or waiting for drinks shook their heads and rolled their eyes at his attitude. The cashier then tried to charge me for the bagel again instead of just the cream cheese. When I pointed this out, he looked at the people behind me and then fixed his eyes on me and said,
"You should just chill out, man"
As I was leaving a guy behind me in line said something to the effect of "I've seen them worse"
Well, I haven't. Actually, I have NEVER had an experience like this before at either one of the stores, or really any restaurant. I have to admit I felt pretty humiliated walking out of there. Everyone has the occasional bad day, but I did not expect this. I wasn't trying to give an attitude, waited in line and paid as I was supposed to. I really don't know.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? Should I talk to the management? Or should I just avoid the place in the future? The dumb thing has been on my mind all day.
Bean & Bagels on Leland is on my banned-for-life list. The customer service is TERRIBLE.
The last time I was there I had finally had enough and said out loud to them that they need to get their act together. A few others in line agreed with me out loud.
It's a bummer because you don't see too many independent bagel joints around here.
I have to agree. I was in the Leland store last week for the first time after going to the Montrose store for about a year. Though there was a sizable line, the staff ignored everyone and were talking/having coffee in one corner, when the guy at the front of the line said "excuse me", one of the guys rolled his eyes and the other laughing started mimicking him, repeating "excuse me".
After this they came back to serve us, but for a lot of us it was the last straw.
I am not the biggest fan of Starbucks, but after that I would go there in a heartbeat over this.
