Mexican "Street Food" in WNC?
I've been reading Anthony Bourdain on the wonderful street vendors in Mexico selling homemade tortillas, grilled meats, salsa verde, etc. Is there anywhere in Western North Carolina one can find this kind of fresh, authentic Mexican fare?

In Asheville there was often a catering van on Haywood in the parking lot of a bodyshop, usually at night IIRC. I think this is the bodyshop that stays open late at night where they reattach the car doors so they open upwards like wings.
This was close to Patton Ave., on the west side of the road. Often quite a line of people there...

i haven't seen that catering truck in a while. it was parked on the site, but shuttered for a bit, then moved completely. haven't been by that way during the evening to see if they're still setting up shop (it was open during the day when i used to go there).
i'd suggest checking out some of the tacqurias. not mobile, but i suspect that some of the food will be similar.

When the Latino Fest happens in the fall there is a smattering of vendors. I heard rumor of some vendors at a swap meet/flea market a while back..I'd ask a local Latino where to go...perhaps duck into one of the Mexican markets on Haywood rd in W.AVL and ask for rec's. Keep us posted!

i had forgotten about the flea markets as they are places i never go. i do recall hearing of a vendor at the big flea market on 25 in the arden/fletcher area (smiley's?). in fact, i believe hanna at the xpress did a review a year or so ago...
