Wally's BBQ in Delaware. Does it still exist?
A few years ago I was driving down to Chincoteague from NY via Route 13 and it was time for lunch. I stopped in Smyrna as several food establishments were advertised exit sign. I was aiming for the Waffle House, but missed the entrance and ended up on a fairly empty road, looking for a place to turn around. Suddenly I spotted it - Wally's. I was driving too fast to stop. As soon as I could turn around, I headed straight for it. It was an open-air establishment with a big smoker behind the kitchen. It looked and smelled authentic. I had a chopped pork sandwich with cole slaw and beans. I knew I would be eating a big dinner that night, so I resisted eating anything bigger, but the huge chicken quarters and slabs of ribs I saw other people eating looked delicious.
Although I return that way every summer, I haven't had a chance to get back to Wally's, but I still wonder about it (it's not always lunch time when I pass through that area). If I have the chance, I do want to go again. I've been searching for it online because I know they used to have a website. I found some old news articles saying that it had been sold. I found the website and it said the page was inaccessible.
Anyone know if it still exists? Is it still good? I'm heading in that direction again in three weeks. Should I make an effort to be in that area at lunchtime?
