best fish sandwich?
would like to find the most tasty fish sandwich in boston. nothing fried, just a big hunk of fish on an amazing bun. also acceptable would be something like an ahi burger.
would prefer the cambridge/somerville area but willing to travel to eat the best.
thanks in advance!

The smoked fish sandwiches at Blue Ribbon BBQ are awesome. Usually either catfish or salmon and only available Thur-Sat. They are a great value too...something ~$6 w/2 sides!.

Don't know about "best," but I really like the yellow fin tuna sandwich at Olde Magoun's in Somerville. It is "Szuchuan-spiced." Well, not really, but it's pretty tasty. It's probably previously frozen, but every time I have had it, it's been cooked to my liking. Served on a good, sturdy ciabatta roll and with a wasabi cabbage slaw.

I just had a very tasty "day boat" grilled fish sandwich at Harvest in Cambridge. The fish was Cod that day (yesterday) and it was served on what was billed as ciabatta bread but it had the lightness of a brioche. It came with arugula, mayo, and a caper spread, with a lightly dressed small green salad on the side. $15 for a nice portion.

It's just outside your target area, and I hate to recommend a chain, but Houston's near Faneuil Hall does a terrific grilled fish sandwich. The fish changes daily, but it's always served on a great toasted bun, with a side of excellently crispy shoestring fries.
If you ever find yourself stuck at Legal Seafoods around lunch, I've had a grilled ahi sandwich there that was totally solid, to me one of the more reliable items on the menu.

re: finlero
They (Houston's) also do a great grilled tuna salad. I used to be loathe to go to Houston's, then, after several very good meals (It was the only game in town, and I was traveling) I did a little inquiring, and found out all their food is prepared in-house, in each restaurant, as opposed to reheating prepped portions from a corporate kitchen. It shows.

I take it by "not fried" you mean "not deep-fried." Which is too bad, because all my favorites are deep-fried (J.J. Foley's Cafe in the South End does a mean one). But the salmon burger at Four Burgers in Central Square might fit your bill, except that I think the roll could be better (as in, more substantial), especially for $7.
