Where can I find whole Suckling Pig?

I am travelling down to Southern Alabama to see some family in 2 weeks. Our final destination is Louisville, AL (southeast alabama). I am looking to pick up a suckling pig on the way, preferably in the Atlanta, GA area. I am driving, so I will be around Atlanta on Sunday evening.

I am looking for recomendations of Pig Farms that sell fresh roasting pigs under 40 lbs. Preferably the farm/butcher would be anywhere from Atlanta to Montgomery or points south. They do not have to be open Sundays if they are closer to southeast alabama.

thanks for ANY guidance!!

Try Bailey Foods in Bailey NC (252)235-3558. They specilize in whole pigs for pig pickings. I'm not sure if they have sucklings but I have purchased as small as 35# from them.

You might try going to the Slow Food website and contacting the organizations in the areas you will be travelling through on your way. Slow Food helps local growers form a network of small farms who specialize in various foods, including meat producers. The groups (by area) are called "convivia". They will be glad to steer you in the right direction. You can search by state. www.slowfoodusa.org
