Fruit Salad Dressings

Candy Jul 8, 2008 02:27 PM

The thread on fruit salads got me remembering, I swear a popular fruit salad dressing I had in my youth combined some whipped cream (unsweetened) with real mayo. I loved it. Epicurious has a fruit salad with orange and mayo dressing. Does anyone remember something like it. A few years ago I winged it for a neighborhood get together and it was quickly eaten. Does it seem too weird, am I mis-remembering something?

i've heard of (and eaten) several like that including:

    - cool whip and mayo
    - yogurt, honey and lemon juice
    - poppyseed vinagerette (which isn't like what you're remembering, but unexpectedly good nonetheless)

I think the mayo just gives it a tang and if you're not into that you could probably substitute a greek yogurt.

i do a quick mixture of yogurt, lime juice, agave nectar [you can sub honey] & poppy seeds, and drizzle it over fruit salad...it's always a hit.

i don't know about the mayo thing...sounds weird to me. then again, i can't imagine baking a chocolate cake with mayo, and some people swear by it!
