Headed to see Tom Petty in Charlotte from Asheville this Friday and I'd love to have a good (quick) bite to eat along the way. Our route is I-26 to 77 to 85. Any suggestions? My husband and I appreciate all cuisines!

Hi, I would suggest you check out Mac's Speed Shop on South Blvd. It's an easy drive off of 77 and it's a casual, fun atmosphere. Perfect for a pre- Tom Petty bite. They serve up some amazing brisket and their pork bbq, slaw, hushpuppies, etc. are all tasty. It's a biker bar themed place w/ a huge beer list, in addition to wines by the glass and a full bar. Here's a link:http://www.macspeedshop.com/

Have a great time and tell TP to rock out some "Don't Do Me Like That"!
    (I'm so jealous)

I don't know where you live in Asheville, but I would think it would be faster to take 26 to 74, 74 to 85 and then 85 north to the amphitheater. Maybe you typed 77 in error??

In Shelby, off 74, there's Bridges BBQ - some of the best in that part of the state. You could even get 'cue sandwhiches to go. It's right off Hwy 74 and a quick in-n-out. They make wonderful hush puppies, too.

Mac's is good, but its location is out of the way in terms of getting to Verizon. I would only go there if you leave early enough to accommodate a special stop.

Traffic into and out of Verizon - esp for a sold-out concert like Tom Petty - can be CRAZY

I second the Bridges BBQ recommendation- yopu will drive RIGHT by it if you takes hazardnc's great directions. Mac's is great but it gets really crowded - and the beer selection will make you late late late for your show. We actually stopped @ Bridges on the way to Asheville to see a show @ The Orange Peel a few weeks ago.

Yes, meant to say 74. BBQ always sounds good... And we just came back from SC where we had some good BBQ on the coast. It's always fun to compare!
