Great wines by the glass for tonight ?

I have a RARE opportunity to dine out tonight without my beloved Chowpup.
I don't want to say food is secondary but when I close my eyes I imagine enjoying a few different glasses of wine with a good, leisurely meal.
Somewhere in the greater west (of La Brea) L.A. area ??
Thanks very much !!!

  1. I'd try AOC. They have 200 wines by the bottle, 50 by the glass. Plus, the foods pretty darn good too.

I assumed a 7:30-8 walk-up, even on a Monday and just for one would be a no go here ???

I went last week on Monday around 8:30 or so. We walked in and got seats at the charcuterie bar -there were several seats at the main bar also. There may have been tables upstairs as well.

By the way, it was, as it was on my first two visits, absolutely wonderful. I have to restrain myself because I want to go again and again. :) We had 3 small plates (sausage, chicken liver crostini and the escarole salad- all very, very good), the special blue cheese w/ the accompanying dessert wine, and two $12 glasses of wine (Flowers - expensive but great). Before tip - $60 and we were stuffed.

    2. PRIMITIVO on abbot kinney in venice is by far the best wine selection by the glass in west LA. They probably have 10 pages of wines from around the world, all of which you can get by the glass or half glass. And the food is amazing-tapas style but more luxurious than traditional tapas plates. Try the braised short ribs if they are available - they melt in your mouth. The place is ALWAYS packed so call ahead and get a reservation and request a seat near the bar if you're with friends.
