Neptunes Net Like in L.A., Santa Monica area?

paprkutr Jul 7, 2008 08:03 PM

I am looking for a very casual seafood place like Neptunes Net of the place in downtown L.A. on Central. Some good seafood, with fried shrimp, clam chowder, etc., nothing fancy, but closer to town. There used to a place years ago in the Marina in the Village, by El Torito. Woould appreciate the help, TIA

I think your closest bet will be Malibu Seafood. Fantastic Fish & Chips. Actually, all of their fried items are several notches above Neptune's Net.

You talking about Fisherman's Outlet or The Catch on Central?

The closest thing but not that close to Santa Monica might be Captain Kidd's in Redondo Beach. www.captainkidds.com

Not as broad an array of choices but the good folk at Santa Monica Seafood have the more than decent 10th Street Cafe (for the next couple of months anyway, 'til they start the remodel to move their store there--at which point, the Cafe, or a variation thereof, will reopen).

I was also going to second 10th St Cafe as another possibilty for the Santa Monica area. Although they don't really have fish and chips, nor do they have steamed lobsters or crabs, but it's pretty close otherwise.

I have seen fish and chips offered there from time-to-time, and it is shown on the official menu. Sadly, no lobster or crab...yet.

I had an excellent fish & chips at 10th Street Cafe. Three squares of fish in a light, crisp batter, with the fish still moist and not overcooked. The fries were blah, the slaw was ok. Very casual, counter service. Also had some good fried calamari there.

There is Tusquellas seafood at the Farmers Market (3rd and Fairfax). They grill up whatever fresh seafood they have. Very fresh and basic. Sides are either rice or coleslaw. Can't tell you about the shellfish because I don't usually eat it.

Another place worth considering is Fish Grill on Beverly near La Brea. They grill up Snapper,
Sea Bass, Salmon etc. Very reasonable plus you get a choice of two sides with your order. Baked Potato, Israeli Salad, Rice, Caesar Salad, etc. No shellfish, it's an Orthodox place.

There's another locale of Fish Grill closer to the Santa Monica area at Wilshire and Barrington.

            Make that will work too.

Thank you all, I know about all the places you mentioned. I was just hoping there was something different in the area.
