Hi,
Would really appreciate some expert suggestions. My husband and I are planning a trip next week to Mystic area (staying at Spa at Norwich Inn) to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Mostly we'll be eating fried clams and lobster rolls, but would like to dress up one night and have a wonderful meal that doesn't involve tartar sauce! Ideally something with an emphasis on seasonal and local ingredients.
Doesn't have to be Mystic--could be Stonington or other nearby town.
Thanks in advance!
Kat

We loved Noah's (and Water St. Cafe) both on Water St. in Stonington. But water st. cafe wouldn't be romantic.

You could try the Seamans Inn Restaurant and Pub,at the seaport. Its a nice spot for a romantic dinner. Will send you the web link.(http://www.mysticseaport.org/index.cf... is a picture of the main dining room. Looks like a nice place to me, Have eaten in the pub and found the meal very good. Maybe some on else has some other ideas. Earle Ct.

I have to disagree. I have been eating occaisionally there for 25 years. Never have I had good food at the Seaman's Inn. Most recently, I had slimy greens in a salad. They hire a new chef which may get them 3 months of honeymoon period before they slump again.

I live in that area and I was thinking about what restaurant I would go to for a special occasion and good food. In Westerly there is Up River Cafe, that would be a nice night. In Misquamicut there is Maria's. Noah's is pretty casual, Shippers Dock in Stonington is beautiful to sit outside and catch sunset.

Actually, Kensington's at the Norwich Inn would fit the bill--I found it a lovely space with excellent food!

Definitely try The Up River Cafe in Westerly. Request the outdoor table that sits by itself to the left when you walk outside - it's a large table but if it's not busy they should give it to you. The river flows by on two sides and the table is shaded by a tree. Food's excellent. www.theuprivercafe.net.

Thanks so much to everyone! I think we'll go with the Up River Cafe in Westerly--but we'll also check out some of the other suggestions, too! Lots of good advice--I'll let you know how it goes.
