I'm going to the Playhouse this Saturday night. What's cooking?

  1. If you like Mexican food, La Fiesta Grande and El Portal are both nearby. Roy's is also nearby, but it's not open yet. If you want a quick snack, you could try Famima!! It's a small convenience store that is very closeby. You could also eat somewhere in the Paseo Colorado or on South Lake.

    El Portal

    La Fiesta Grande

    1. My top choices in that area are Shiro or Smitty's Grill.

If all you want is a good slice of pizza, then Tarantino's would be a good choice. Just make sure to bring cash (no c/c accepted).

is shiro still a reliable stalwart, i was a liittle worried that it might be a little past its prime after all these years.

is it still owned and operated by the original chef?

Yes. Shiro is stil very good, although I was last there this past Xmas.

Given the popularity of Orris, I don't know how much time Shiro actually gets to spend at his namesake (and original) restaurant, however.

I guess I'll have to visit not so sleepy anymore, South Pasadena, for some whole fried catfish and the chinese ravioli. what else is good on the menu.

also, is it just me or is the whole catfish for 28 or 29 bucks pretty expensive. if i'm not mistaken they don't offer cheaper small size anymore. and the funny thing is the sizes always seemed to be roughly the same whether ordering small, medium, or large.
