Shepherd's pie in Queens?

What places in Queens have a killer Shepherd's Pie?

I've been having a craving lately...lots of meat and lots of mashed potatoes please!

The only two I've had are at Cronin and Phelan's and Donovan's Pub and both are excellent...

  1. Not Queens, but The Islands in Prospect Heights does a KILLER shepherds pie. You have to call ahead about 30-40 minutes, but it'll be ready when you get there. It's somewhat Jamaican inspired, but still a solid shepherds pie.

Great tip. What's Jamaican about it - seasoning in the meat?

Just some seasoning and maybe the way she does the top (just the vegetables she puts on top of the lower of cheese and potato she uses as a crust.)

    2. also not in queens, but I like the Chip Shop in Brooklyn (Park Slope).

      It's a Autumn/Winter staple in our house.

Shannon Pot in LIC is a dive, but I've found the sheperherd's pie totally serviceable on a cold winter's day.

... and it's actually in Queens!

      2. anyone try Cuckoo's Nest? I've been having brunch there on the occasional sunday and have been impressed with other options.

        1. In that area, try Stove in Astoria; very good Shepherd's Pie.

          1. try pj horgan's on queens blvd - right next to chips mexican. the portion is decent and it's tasty.

            1. questions -- are these suggestions made with lamb? i thought a real shepherd's pie is supposed to be made with lamb (and that few do this)? i think if its beef technically its a cottage pie.

                The Islands uses lamb mince.
