So, Dionicio Jiminez (of the Xochitl fame) has opened a BYO at 8th & Christian (formerly Molcajete Mixto.) But there has been no press about it. Any particular reason why? Have you been yet?

      I'm curious to try out the new restaurant this weekend. I thought Molcajete mixto was a decent restaurant, wonder why it closed?

        1. Surprisingly there is little information out there... According to one messageboard, Paxia touts their grand opening is 7/12-26. They are BYOB and feature margarita mixes for your tequila, including free lime mix with purchase of an entree -- YMMV on this, and it doesn't say when that special will end.

          It looks as though they are open everyday for dinner, except Tuesdays, and feature brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

          * sunday: 11am to 10pm
          * monday: 5pm to 10pm
          * tuesday: closed
          * wednesday: 5pm to 10pm
          * thursday: 5pm to 10pm
          * friday: 5pm to 10pm
          * saturday: 11am to 11pm

            I went to Paxia recently and enjoyed the food. I encourage people to hurry up and go there. They have great fresh margarita fixins for your tequila. The appies and entrees are reasonable priced. I split a huge platter of food that included pork ribs, chicken pibil, shrimp, guacamole, and a few other things for only $30!!! I was stuffed to the gills. The place was empty on a Friday night but they haven't done much advertising yet.

              4 of us went there this weekend. The food was good, we shared 3 apps (a melted cheese app with 3 different toppings, cerviche and a special salad) All 3 were excellent. For entrees we had 1 chicken and 2 pork enchiladas in a mole sauce (very good mole sauce ok enchiladas), Camarones Al Ajillo which were whole very large shrimp with heads, very greasy and not too much flavor, Brocheta Cielo Mar Y Tierra Con Salsa De Cacahuate Con Aroma De Café which was very good and the grilled Salmon. Overall it was good but not as good as Molcajete Mixto. It was pretty empty. We're going back to give it another try.

                OK, I went and the food is AMAZING!!!
                We had the pescado ceviche & tres quesos. Tmen we split the Entrremos Ranchero or the "Big Ole Meat Platter" as the server described it. And boy was she right. It was a TON of food. Pork ribs, chicken, shrimp, steak, cheese, guacamole. And it was FANTASTIC! Great service. You get you lime margarita mix for free if all of order an app & and entree and bring tequila. SWEET!!! I'm dying to check out brunch. The server said they have a bloody mary bar. All you have to do is bring vodka. I hear their bringing in salsa dancing too. Good thing, because that floor looks like it deserves some dancing on. The space is great for groups and since it's BYO, you can save a few bucks. And who's NOT about saving money these days!?

                  i went there at the beginning of november and i completely agree. the food was excellent and they did a great job with our party of sixteen. i loved the tres quesos too. but the only thing that i didn't like was on that meat platter (the rest of the platter was delicious)....the chicharonnes were meat free. boo! but i seriously loved everything else, from the enchiladas to the soup to the guac to the meat stir fry i had. YUM!
