We are coming into town next Sunday and need some good food that is not expensive. We will be there Sunday night and need a place to walk to from Jones/Turk. Any help would be great.

Thanks

The tenderloin is home to many India/Pakistani and Vietnamese restaurants. My choices would be Sultan for Indian and Bodega Bistro for Vietnamese, although BB is more expensive than the other Tenderloin Viet places (it's nicer and has more alcohol options, if that matters).

Bodega Bistro is great for groups that size, not sure about the rest of these:

A La Turca
Coco Bang (Korean)
Comida Yucatan Y City Pizza
Thai House Express

Indian/Pakistani:

Lahore Karahi
Little Delhi
Naan 'n' Curry
Pakwan
Shalimar
Sultan

Vietnamese:

Anh Hong
Bodega Bistro
Chutney
Pagolac
Quynh Nhi
Them KY
Turtle Tower

Turtle Tower is pretty small -- I don't think they could handle 13. Some of those Indian/Pakistani places don't have full table service -- I think several of them are "order at the counter and bring you the food" type places. With a party that size, it would be better to pick at place that takes reservations.

On the other hand, a pay-when-you-order place eliminates the need to figure out how to divide the bill.

Here are the Places records with most of those mentioned.

Some will have websites or menus. Most will have linked reports. Some will have hours. At the least you have phone numbers to confirm they will be open on Sunday.

Whatever you do don';t even consider Naan n' Curry. It is cheap ... that's it ... cheap ... cheap and unfriendly ... the only thing I've ever liked at any of the many locations across the Bay Area ... and they all pretty consistantly suck, IMO ... is the naan.

Shalimar could hold a group that size.

Much as I like Lahore Karahi, it could take them a long time to make food for 13. I think Thai House Express and Bodega Bistro are better equipped to handle a crowd.

I agree with THE and Bodega.

I'd probably add Sultan from Robert's list above, since they can do a large party. But the last time we were there, the service was very slow. Might be okay if you brought your own drinks and weren't too too hungry.

A La Turca has space for a group that size. I've seen large groups have the upstairs area to themselves. Just ate there again for dinner a few weeks ago, it was pretty good. We had the eggplant salad, lamuhcun, cacik, and the iskender kebap.
