French Onion Soup

I often crave a good crock of baked French Onion Soup.... but have yet to find my go-to place to get it. There's nothing better than the rich flavor of beef broth, caramelized onions, a dry/crusty crouton and gooey melted swiss cheese!

I used to love the French Onion Soup at "Dive", Steven Spielberg's yellow-submarine themed restaurant in the Century City Shopping Mall. Sadly, Dive tanked in 1999 and I've been missing it ever since.

Anybody have any favorite places for French Onion Soup in LA? Anywhere from the San Fernando Valley to the Marina Del Rey.... willing to travel for my fix!

Anisette. Just had it last night. As good as it gets. Best I can remember ever having.

This is pretty far from your desired locales and I don't know how authentic it is, but I really like the French Onion Soup at Favori in Santa Ana. Yes, the Vietnamese whole baked catfish place. They put a raw egg yolk in the soup underneath the cheese. If anyone reading this thread is craving French Onion Soup in OC, they should give it a try. And grab a whole baked catfish while you're at it!

Not in the requested area, but it was great at 3 Forks in Claremont.

I had a little crock of OUTSTANDING French Onion Soup, complete with gooey Gruyere and crouton, at The Crepe Vine in Old Town Pasadena.

Lots of good recs here, I really like the onion soup at Mistral in Sherman Oaks.

Pinot Bistro in Studio City makes an excellent French Onion Soup.

Rive Gauche in Sherman Oaks also makes a really nice french onion soup.

Looks like they merged both of your threads Kacey, so the links were lost. Here are the links again.

I've always really enjoyed the french soup at Chez Nous in Toluca Lake. It's served steaming hot in a crock with lots of gooey melted cheese. There croissants are delicious too

Well, this is nowhere near either SFV or MDR but I had the *best* french onion soup at the Golden Spur in Glendora.

I'm probaly going to be shot down for this but I really love the French Onion soup at Hamburger Hamlet. It tastes rich and there plenty of gooey cheese with a nice crust. There's still one in Pasadena on S, Lake Ave.

yogachik's recommendation for Anisette is a great one. I also like the version at Le Marmiton on Montana a lot.

I miss Dive, too! My favorite soup is at The Raymond in Pasadena. So good!
