oakland chinatown tonight

Heading to Oakland for work and meeting some close family friends for dinner there. We all love chinese food and I understand there are some terrific places there. Would appreciate any recommendation for downtown oakland. If good vietnamese, also interested. This is for dinner, some adventurous eaters/some kids.

Thanks hounds!

Thanks Robert. Any place in Oakland have the live king crab, abalone or geoduck like ive seen in socal?

the dumplings at shanghai sound great too!

The bigger places like Legendary Palace and Peony might have them in stock -- call them after their dim sum rush. I've also seen some ppl order it(geoduck) at Gold Medal sashimi style.

Legendary Palace has a seasonally varying selection of live seafood. That's pretty much their specialty. Call or stop by to see what they have on any particular day.

went to legendary seafood. buddy's wife (berkeley vegetarian) called the fish/lobster/crab tanks 'death row.' enjoyed steamed rock cod with scallions and light soy/wine kind of sauce, dried scallop fried rice, a few abalone, salt and pepper dungeness crabs and a nice peking duck (great crispy skin) for good measure. Also ample veggies for the veggies. thanks for the tip, we enjoyed it and it was a hit with the rugrats.
