Fried Clams in Boston - In Town

I would appreciate recommendations food places to get fried clams in town and near the subway.

Definitely Neptune Oyster, great lobsters nice atmosphere, but I also like the clams at the Oceanaire Seafood Room.

Royal Roast Beef in East Boston near the Orient Heights T station is well-known (but under-promoted due to its resolutely blue collar location) for its fried clams, among other things.

I love the ones at Neptune.

I also see that Busy Bee has them as a special every Friday, anyone had them there? I love that place for their diner fare, and have always wondered about the clams....

            CourtHouse Seafood on Cambridge Street

I guess you'd call it East Cambridge

I think Neptune Oysters' fried clams are worth the premium. They are always pristine and beautifully fried: my favorite in the city. And no raw-sewage issues to fret about.

I would add B&G to the list. I haven't had them in a while, but the folks at B&G always start with the best ingredients and generally work wonders with the frialator. Yes it comes at a price, but B&G is worth it IMHO.

I'm gonna hafta say the Barking Crab on Fort Point Channel, it's a barge on the water a short walk from South Station.

When did they move it to a barge?

you're right...it's not a barge, but it feels like one!

gotta agree with ya there....and Blumie's comment too.

I was legitimately asking, because I know the City wants them out of there, I'd wondered if they'd move their operation onto a boat.

The last time I had the clams at the Barking Crab (now almost two years ago, to be fair) they were greasy, small, not very tasty.

I'll also chime in for the clams at Royal- excellent fry job.

WARNING: the following post mentions Legal Sea Foods WITHOUT trashing the place. Please do not be alarmed, read at your own risk:

I've ordered fried clams at Legal's and .... they were good. There. I said it.

I have had decent fried clams at Legals, but the last time I did -- this spring at the Park Square location -- they were so chewy as to be nearly inedible.

I like the clams at Royal Roast Beef in Eastie, near Orient Heights (Blue Line).

Neptune Oyster is near the haymarket Green line and has great fried clams. I've also had very good fried clams at Salty Dog..Quincy mkt; Sail Loft near Aquarium stop.

Another vote for Neptune. Excellent fried clams. We typically end up ordering a second plate.

Search the board for lots of discussion/controversy but I like either Summer Shack (Boston, Green Line, Cambridge, Red Line) for fried clams.
