Crispy, salty bacon for a smoky backdrop, gently dress (romaine?) lettuce for a bitter edge, nuanced sour of soft artichoke hearts -- impeccable balance in a dish with impeccable ingredients and execution. Very nice sausage, lots of rosy meaty flavour, could be a touch more tender but that's a quibble. Backed up by awesome sweet caramelized onions, beet crisps, excellent mash and a savoury gravy. Also a great dish. The sausage and mash was paired well with and Adnams Broadside, rich, and round with good hoppy bitterness. A fine treacle tart with dense gorgeous vanilla cream (dotted with real seeds, not essence). If my experiences were typical, I'd pick this over the Anchor and Hope in Southwark.
