Mark's [Houston]

I've read so many positive reviews of Mark's in Houston that my friends and I have decided to go there for a weekday birthday luncheon.

I saw a "sample menu" on their website. Does their menu change daily/often?

I would love to read some recommendations of "must tries" or some things that have disappointed.

I'm probably not the best to ask as I only get to eat there when I'm in Houston, but my impression is that the menu changes quite often to take into account seasonal ingredients, etc. I know that I've dined on consecutive nights and there will be some differences in the menu, although there is also some overlap.

    1. As Mark Cox favors fresh ingredients it would behoove you to sample a daily special. If they have soft shell crab, he does it quite simply (fried) toppped with jumbo lump crab meat and a citrus beurre blanc. Fresh King crab is quite a rariety in Houston and when he has them he usually cooks them in the wood burning oven with just a smattering of spice. When you here the phrase "A Study of....." , jump on it. Uusually lamb (Jameson Farms Lamb!) or Kobe beef, and he usually has 3 different preparations on the same plate. Trust your instincts and the wait staff. They are quite well educated so don't hesitate to inquire about the menu. Finally, I highly recommend the raspberry tart. They have a new pastry chef and she has recontextualized several old favorites.
