We just spent the weekend in Bath, and I wanted to report on the dinners we had.

The first was at "Hudson Bar & Grill" in the upstairs restaurant. Very nice atmosphere and delicious food. We started with the appetizer sampler which consisted of 2 tempura prawns with spicy ponzu sauce, crab remoulade with avocado & parmesan toasts, smoked salmon & rocket wraps, and duck salad with ginger dressing. It was wonderful! All the different flavors and presentations. Just lovely. For mains I had the filet mignon & my husband had the T-Bone. Both were perfectly cooked as ordered, and came with a red wine glaze, and bearnaise sauce on the side and included a big serving of chips and a small salad. We had delicious grilled tomatoes with bread crumbs and parmesan as a side. Our only complaint was that the steamed spinach we ordered was a little tough, but everything else was so delicious and well done that we didn't even care.

We ate at "One Fish Two Fish" the next evening. It's downstairs and feels like an old wine cellar. Very nice atmosphere. The service was a bit off the evening we were there, and it appeared a few of the servers were brand new. But the food was delicious. We started with a dozen oysters, 6 raw & 6 grilled. We are huge fans of raw oysters but the grilled ones were amazing. Just barely grilled but the warmth brought out new flavors & nuances. I had the Devon pollack fillet on leek & potato cake with crab chowder. The chowder was amazing and coated the fish & potatoes with such a rich seafood flavor. I loved it. My husband had the seared scallops with slow roasted pork belly. It was such an unusual combination and it completely worked. We were both very happy with our meals.

We also had lunch at Bink's Coffee shop (nothing to write about, but it is in the courtyard outside Bath Abbey & The Roman Baths, and it was a gorgeous sunny day.) Another lunch was at Central Bar, which we stumbled on to but it was good. It looks like it would be great for drinks, because they had some specialty cocktails that sounded interesting.

We never ate at our hotel, The Macdonald Bath Spa, but we did enjoy drinks in the bar with a very knowledgeable bartender. (Except for the dry martini, which came out as mostly vermouth and with 2 black olives. Yuck!)

All in all, very enjoyable dining experiences in Bath.

    Glad you enjoyed your weekend.

Good to hear a positive recommendation for Hudsons Steakhouse Bar & Grill. They were at the Taste of Bath food festival this weekend and were doing a roaring trade in steak and chips, we tried some and they do, do a good bernaise sauce. Looks like we will need to pop down and try them - only tried the bar so far.

We will also need to check out "One Fish, Two Fish" we hadn't tried it as our neighbours had said it had gone down hill.

Intrigued to know why you cancelled the reservation at The White Hart?

We DID cancel! Good memory. We thought it might be more out of the way, since it seemed to be away from the city centre. And my husband was craving a steak so we did research & came up with Hudsons. Sorry we didn't get to try your local. Maybe next time!
