Queso Asadero

I have an excellent queso blanca recipe, but it requires queso asadero. I have been to at least 6 different mexican markets between Mountain View and Redwood City, but could not find it. Anybody have any suggestions?

Did you try Mi Rancho in Redwood City? They are a Mexican supermarket and have a large selection of Mexican cheeses.

Indeed, Mi Rancho was one of the 6 or so. I also tried the place on newbridge, and the one on Menalto. Went to Chavez in RWC, the one next to Safeway on California in Mountain View.

I tried one or two others, but no luck...

Perhaps contacting these folks could get you a line on local distributors.

Did you try ask for "queso quesadilla", too? Fontina or Monterey jack could be substitutes.

I say Queso Asadero at Mi Ranchito in San Francisco the other day. I also spotted the really small tortillas used for tacos in all the taquerias that I've never been able to find for some reason.

I have been able to get this cheese , believe it or not, at Nob Hill Grocery on Grant Road in Mt View. Talk to someone in the deli or cheese section, as it is not in the place you would normally expect to find it. Ask them to take you where they have the queso asadero, the sopas shells, etc.

I saw it today at Luckys El Cerrito. Must be in the chain.

Thanks everyone. I found it at that grocery store on Broadway (north of Woodside) in Redwood City.
