Searching for best breakfast in Athens

I think I have had breakfast/brunch at just about every place in the Athens area, just wondering what y'all think is the best around. For my money, the best biscuit is a bacon egg & cheese from Mama Shug's in Winterville, and the grits @ the Grit are hard to beat.

The best traditional breakfast in Athens is at the Mayflower on Broad Street, and the best sausage biscuit is at the Biscuit Barn.

I'm definitely a fan of the Five Star Day breakfast, although it can take interminably long to get your food at times.

it depends on what you're looking for...upscale brunch in Athens has been a favorite of my wife and I for the last ~8 years. Five & Ten, Last Resort, and Porterhouse all have great brunches (and in that order)

It might not be the "best" breakfast/brunch place around but since I've been in town I've made it a habit to have brunch at Big City Bread at least once a month. I just really enjoy the atmosphere and I also really like quiche, which they always have some version of.

I have a serious trans fat phobia, so I don't just order biscuits anywhere. While they may not be the most popular, Big City Bread has great biscuits if you are worried about the partially hydrogenated oils used at most places.

Grit has the best pancakes.

I love Mama's Boy for the southern food, but some of the items on Harry Bissett's brunch are mighty fine-- the veal grillades over grits come to mind. Yum!

Although the food is not the best in town, having brunch out at the State Botanical Gardens is a wonderful experience particularly once a month when the shaped-note singers group is practicing. That makes up for a lot.

I have to admit I haven't tried Mama Shug's but the bacon egg & cheese biscuits at the Ila Diner are really a treat.
