NY 'Hound in town for one night

I will be in town for one night with my boyfriend next week and I'm looking for a recommendation for dinner. We will eat any cuisine and our price range is about $40 pp, without tax and tip. I'd like a place where we don't need a reservation in case plans change and the dress is nice, but by no means fancy. Just looking for a don't-miss kind of place.

Thanks :)

  1. what area are you staying in and what night are you thinking of ? the jazzfest is on and it's pretty busy everywhere........

    1. I'm going to suggest my go to place lemeac on Laurier. French, casual and a killer terrace. 22 bucks after 10pm.

      1. Was in montreal this past weekend and ate at chez l'epecier (on Saint Paul Est) and really enjoyed it. Its a very nice set up but not overly fancy. Main courses are priced in the 30's.

I would second L'Epecier- very innovate/fun menu mixed with impeccable french classics. Europea is an awesome dining experience also. It seems fancy, but they have no dress code, & eating there makes you feel fancy nomatter what. For a truly gluttonous experience try APDC on Deluth, but make reservations, as they are a tiny place.

No dress code? You mean they'll have to endure the presence of people in polo shirts? That might well ruin their meal.

I sense some cross-thread mockery taking place here :)
