Chelsea/Village: Dinner for 8, not loud or dark

Hey All, I have family coming in from out of town in 2 weeks, with other family members from Jersey coming in to meet us on a Thursday night for dinner. We usually do something like Carmine's because it's easy and conveniently located. Finally I've convinced everyone to deal with going outside midtown, but now I need to come up with a place to eat.

Looking for recommendations for 8 people somewhere downtown (Chelsea, Village, Soho) that isn't too dark, too loud or too fancy. Suggestions?

Disagree with Cafe Loup. Noisy and the food's mediocre.

      Noho Star or Savoia?

I would say Otto but I worry that it might be too loud (I don't tend to notice noise level). Anyone else have an idea whether this would fit the OP's request? If you do go, focus on the food other than pizza.

I remember Otto being fairly loud but admittedly I havent been in quite some time.

Depends on what kind of food you want. Otto's pretty good. I would also suggest Lupa in Greenwich Village, Po, Cafe Asean (outdoor seating might be nice for summer). Jeeb is good for Thai.
