Restaurants near Staples Center

chowmensch Jul 2, 2008 12:46 PM

New England Hound here. I'll be visiting in a few weeks and will be staying at a hotel near the Staples Center. Any ideas on a good restaurant in that area. I will be taking my 23 yr old daughter and her boyfriend to dinner. Cost is not a big issue but it doesn't have to be super fancy. I'm more of a foodie than they are but I'm willing to compromise and go to a nice Italian or steak place with fun (but not too loud) ambience where we can relax and catch up. Thanks for any suggestions.

Tiara Cafe, 127 E. 9th St. -- in the first block east of Main. Small plates, terrific food, good beers, wine by the glass. Here's a link to the Chowhound page with my mini-review: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/478349

For steak and fish, there's Nick and Stef's.

Zucca (Italian) or Tranquility Base (small plates) would both be good choices.

There's a Morton's steakhouse about 2 blocks north of Staples as well.

The Palm would be perfect. Right across the street from Staples.

Blue Velvet is nearby. If you get a table in the back room, it should be quieter than the main room. I went over a year ago, after it opened, and was very impressed with the food and service. I don't know if they have maintained this quality, check out some reviews.
