San Buena Taco Truck not so Buena (FiDi)
I stumbled across the taco truck (named "San Buena") in the parking lot at Pacific and Sansome and had to check it out, even though I'd just had lunch. After all, it's the closest one to me, a healthy walk from home.
Tacos are $2 each, and smallish, but what the heck, it's the Financial District and a reasonable sandwich will set you back as much as four tacos. I didn't hold any hopes for the al pastor, so I ordered a carnitas and a lengua. The carnitas were ok, but not as close to burnt to a crisp as I like, but the lengua was strangely tasteless. I ordered them "spicy" but I guess that term is relative to location. From what I observed, the mode seemed to be "carne asada, mild". Maybe someone knows the secret menu code for really, truly, honestly spicy.

If you tell them in Spanish... "Quiero Que Pique" any Mexican will consider you an insider & will hook it up. However, if the Taco Truck is run by Guatemalans or Salvadorans... you might be out of luck because they generally have a much more "Northern European" sense of Spicy.

I actually like them, but they're the only game in the area -- I wouldn't go out of my way to go there were it not the only taco place near where I work.
The al pastor is the best, although greasy. Carnitas comes out in large chunks (like two chunks per taco), and wasn't crispy. The carne asada was insanely salty the two times I tried it, but the pollo asada was pretty good. Spicy isn't terribly spicy there. I usually ask for an extra container of the hot salsa and pour a bunch over.
