One of my easy meals when I get home late is often spaghetti with broccoli and pesto or just parmesan and olive oil. But after reading about Thai food all day on Chowhound I was feeling like something with a more Asian feeling, so I threw this together and it was quite successful. It would be great with some shitakes or all kinds of other additions.
1) Cook spaghetti and broccoli together, drain.
2) Saute a few cloves of chopped garlic, some chopped shallot, and some chopped ginger in a little peanut oil. When it's just barely browned, throw in a tablespoon or two of butter and a tablespoon of soy sauce.
3) While all that is cooking, lightly toast some pinenuts and chiffonade some basil.
Toss garlic/butter mixture, spagetti and broccoli, basil and pinenuts all together. Drizzle with sesame oil.
Feel free to add shrimp, scallions, mushrooms, Sriracha sauce, etc....anything except cheese!
