LuLu's Southern Fried South Beach Restaurant

  • 2

Sad news for fans of South Beach's LuLu's Restaurant, the temple of Elvis worship and kick-ass cornbread on Washington Avenue for many years. LuLu's founder Bill Keen passed away this week after an extended battle with cancer. Keen made a legendary road trip all over the South buying roadside relics he used to bring his kitschy trailer park creation to life. Friends and fans contributed velvet Elvis paintings and other King-related memorabilia to help make the second floor Elvis Lounge a must-see destination on South Beach. The site of many a goofy theme night and even a few weddings, Lulu's was beloved by locals and tourists for it's fabulous home-style Southern Fried Cooking. We miss the smothered pork chops, the wise cracking waitstaff and most of all Billy - a South Beach Pioneer and a dedicated Chowhound.

Services for Keen will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on 3716 Garden Avenue, Saturday July 5th at 1pm.

Absolutely! A great guy and a wonderful host. The spirit and success of LuLu's was all Billy's energy and focus and determination.

Sad to have lost him ...
