Where to buy lotus root and real wasabi (not horseradish powder)

Hey all,

Did a search but couldn't find an answer.

Was wondering where I can buy lotus root, so that I can make home version of the lotus root appetizer served at Aki, Matsuri and Sushi Decibel. It may be pickled or fresh, I'm not sure, so suggestions for either would be great.

Also, would love to find a place to buy real wasabi, either fresh or powdered, NOT the green colored american horseradish powder.

Thanks!!!

They have fresh wasabi at the japanese market on Broome St off the corner from West Broadway across from Kens Broome St Bar. Think it is called Sunrise Market.

I stopped buying lotus root at Sunshine Market (the St Mark's location) because it's sold wrapped in plastic, frequently half-spoiled and wildly expensive compared to Chinatown veg stores or street carts.

Mitsuwa in Edgewater, NJ sells it. There's a shuttle for $3 each way from the Port Authority.

I usually buy my lotus root in Chinatown. No special place- just wherever they have it.
