CHILANGO'S is back!

Haven't been yet, but just heard the news that Chilango's back. Same chef, same staff, same head waiter Victor, same location, same menu. Hey, San Diego, for once there is a second chance. I've dreamed about those strange fruit enchildadas ever since I had them. For authentic and beautifully prepared Mexico City cuisine, this is the place. Let's go!

Yeah, its been reopened for probably 6 months now. There was a thread about it on here but nothing about it for a few months. I'd like to know if anyone has gone recently and if the quality is back to what it used to be. I went the first week they reopened and the quality was definitely a cut below its former quality. I was planning to give it another try but haven't been back since since its just to damn hard to find parking in Hillcrest.

If you are willing to spend $5 (after 6pm) for parking, there is parking spot close to the corner of University and 2nd. I never have problems to find parking there.

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try it before it initially closed so I don't have a frame of reference. However, I did go on Friday and was quite impressed with both of the dishes that we tried. Very sizeable portions, friendly staff and great flavors. My only issue was the sangria was a little too sweet and one of the dishes we tried was supposed to be a shrimp and chicken dish but the chicken was hard to find. I would definitely suggest trying it or going back and I would be curious to hear if you think it is as good as it used to be.

      2. Chilango's was really good and authentic before.
I'm sure that if they have the same staff and location, and a renewed energy, their food must be good.

        1. This has turned into an americanized-thai pick your protein, pick your sauce place. dissappointing

Not a Noodles & Company. I've gone to the one in Encinitas and I find that you have to stand in front of the menu for about 10 minutes, trying to figure it out, before ordering. I've watched others spend the same amount of time.

sorry for the confusion - i left out that its still chilangos - just mexican sauces and proteins

Oh, you said, "...thai" so I was confused. I did think Chilangos was kind of special sorry to hear of their downfall.

              Kare,

We stopped by over the holidays and your assesment is correct -- now the mole was a very good mole but there was very little variety in what to order. It all seemed rather bland.

Still, a better pick than a greasy hole in the wall but with El Comal, Mama Testa, etc... a short drive away, I don't think I will be back so soon.

              Very nice lunch specials however...
